Transporting salmon and not disease

Jeremy Hadden

Disease is a major issue with commercial aquaculture especially with saltwater reared salmon. These diseases and parasites affect the area around the rearing pens and spread when the fish are transported to the processors, alive, which requires water pumped in and out of the holding tanks. Scientists and engineers have been working on a boat designed to filter the effluent water before discharging it back into the ocean. It also includes a delicing unit which helps remove lice from the fish and make them more presentable. The whole filtration system is chemical free and eco-friendly. It is nice to see environmental issues of aquaculture, being solved.
