Tuna Black Market Worth Billions

Posted by Kira Baranowski: Well, the title says it all! France, reportedly, had its Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries join forces with the tuna industry to doctor catch numbers. “It’s like driving down the road. If I know there are no police, I’m going to speed,” said Roger Del Ponte. Eastern Atlantic bluefin tuna are the primary target for the black market, which was worth over four billion dollars between 1998 and 2007. As you would certainly expect, fish populations are severely affected and the article went as far as to mention “collapse” in regards to fisheries.

  1. Yuck. Bad news. Those wild fish are just too much temptation. We MUST find alternatives as soon as we can. This is probably one of the few fish for which I support aquaculture….
